A business premises technology audit looks beyond individual computers. It checks how the complete environment works together: internet, network, WiFi, cloud systems, backups, CCTV, cabling and the physical equipment staff use every day.
Computers and user devices
Check age, warranty, operating system support, storage health and whether staff are using appropriate security controls. Note devices that are likely to need replacement in the next 12 to 24 months.
Microsoft 365 and cloud services
Review users, licences, administrator roles, MFA, shared mailboxes, forwarding and external sharing. Confirm the business controls its own tenant and recovery details.
Internet and failover
Record the primary service, router, expected speed and recurring faults. If downtime would stop trading, assess whether a secondary 4G/5G or Starlink service is appropriate.
WiFi coverage
Check the actual areas where staff work rather than only standing near the router. Dead zones, unstable roaming and overloaded access points can all reduce productivity.
Structured cabling
Inspect data outlets, patch panels and cable labelling. Identify damaged leads, undocumented runs and areas where WiFi is being used only because there is no suitable fixed connection.
Network cabinet
Check switches, patch panels, UPS units, ventilation, cable management and labels. Confirm there is enough capacity for planned additions.
Backups and recovery
List every important data source and confirm it is protected. Review retention, access controls and when the last restore test was completed.
CCTV and physical technology
Check camera coverage, recording health, storage retention and whether important views remain useful after layout changes. Confirm network-connected devices are documented.
Test & Tag and electrical equipment records
Where applicable, confirm portable electrical equipment is being inspected and tested at intervals appropriate to the workplace and that records are being maintained.
Turn the audit into priorities
The output should not be a shopping list. Separate findings into urgent risks, sensible improvements and future planning. That lets the business spend money where it has the greatest operational value.
Shortcut Computers combines business IT support, registered data cabling, CCTV, Test & Tag, WiFi and backup services, which makes this whole-premises approach practical.
